Charles Lee Pollard

Pastor Charles Lee Pollard of Calverton died May 17, 2015, at his home. He was 78. 

He was born April 25, 1937, in Tarrytown, N.Y. to Charles and Leah Pollard. He married Mary (Hood) Sept. 5, 1958, in Lawton, Okla.

Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958 in Korea with the 24th Infantry Division. He was a member of Mattituck Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Charles worked as a parts manager for 18 years for Peter Glennon Buick Cadillac in Southampton and also was parts manager at Riverhead Building Supply. He served as a past volunteer fireman and emergency medical technician in Lake Carmel, N.Y.

Family members said Charles enjoyed preaching.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary; his children, Charles Jr., of Calverton and Rance of Houston; his sister, Leah Ann (Leo) Bartell of Albany; his grandson, Austin James Knodler; his sister-in-law, Betty Hargis of Lawton, Okla.; his nieces Sandy Cook, Kandy Peeler, Leeann Cullen and Stacey Ibison and special friend, Tara Harrigan.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a funeral service will be held during evening hours. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.
