Spring is here, and summer is not far behind. Now that you can actually leave the house without the bulky layers, it’s time to get outside and have some fun! From nature walks to spending time on the beautiful waters our area has to offer, Glenwood Village has a few ideas to get you going in this warm weather.

Sunset Paddling
Living on the East End of Long Island, nothing is more appealing than spending some time out on the local waterways. What makes it even better? Our stunning sunsets! Long Island Canoe and Kayak Rentals takes it one stroke further with Sunset Paddle Tours. On Thursday evenings through August, join the crew on the vessel of your choice, including kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards. Tours are $45 per person. The views alone will surely make you appreciate the sunshine!

Fishing Trips
Spending time on the water often leads to some fishing. Captain Bob’s Fishing Fleet in Mattituck has full-day fishing trips available everyday. With only a half hour from the dock to the fishing spots, you spend a lot more time doing what you came to do – and that’s catch some fish! It’s also great for groups, and seniors can spend the day on these excursions for $62.

Nature Walks
If you’re more of a landlubber, nature walks are perfect for fresh air and exercise. The Quogue Wildlife Refuge has 300 acres of preserved land that is home to all sorts of wildlife. The refuge is open every day of the year, and with seven miles of trails there is much to explore, including forests, ponds, and the rare Dwarf Pines in the Pine Barrens. There is no cost to visit the preserve, but the non-profit organization does accept donations.

Rainy Day Bowling
Not every day is going to be as beautiful and sunny as we would like, but sometimes you still want to get out of the house. For a fun indoor activity visit The All Star in Riverhead for some bowling. They host a “Sunday Funday” where you can bowl as much as you want for two hours. At $12 per person, it’s a pretty good deal that will keep your body moving.

All of these activities are perfect for almost any age, especially the active 55+ community. Now that you have a few activities to enjoy on the East End, get outside and bask in the sunshine! After this winter, you deserve it.
