Aquebogue News: Old Steeple Community Church’s chicken BBQ

I hope you’re enjoying this chilly start of summer. It is great gardening weather, though I would like it to get a little bit warmer.

I wanted you to know about some early-summer activities. Here’s some dates so you can plan ahead.

Living Water Church in Aquebogue sponsors a great summer Bible school adventure. This year’s theme is “SonTreasure Island.” It will run from Monday, June 29, through Friday, July 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. The program includes some very creative skits and crafts and is free for kids ages 4-12. We have participated in their kids’ programs a few times over the years and they are a lot of fun. The music programs at Living Waters are the best. They even get the most reserved kids singing and dancing in no time at all. What a great way to jump-start summer. Register online at lwfgc.org or call 722-4969.

Mark your calendar for Jamesport Fire Department’s annual carnival. Hours are: Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 11 p.m.; Wednesday, July 8, 6 p.m. (food only), 7 p.m. parade; Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, 6 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, July 11, 5 p.m. to midnight (fireworks at 10 p.m.).

Old Steeple Community Church will host its annual chicken barbecue Saturday, July 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. Eat in or take out. Tickets are $15 before July 4; $17 after July 4 through July 11. For tickets, call Jean at 722-4171 or email her at [email protected].

In addition to all the news about the fireworks and the carnival, don’t forget to sign up early for JFD’s 5K/10K run, to be held Aug. 23. Join me and all the neighbors for a great local event that brings runners from all over Long Island, the tri-state area and beyond. Proceeds help support the fire department’s community outreach programs and activities, the FASNY Firemen’s Home, the Suffolk County Volunteer Firefighters Burn Center Fund and the Jamesport Meeting House. Register at jamesportfd.org/#event.

Feel free to send me your news and let me know how your summer is going. Have a beautiful week!
