Joseph R. Brown Sr.

Joseph R. Brown Sr. of Calverton died June 14 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, Conn. He was 92. 

He was born Jan. 24, 1923, in Powhatan, Va. to Mary (Gray) and Joseph S. Brown.

His son, Joseph Brown Jr., said his father was “very hardworking and often worked during his vacations.” Mr. Brown worked as a mill hand for Agway on Pulaski Street in Riverhead and later worked for many local farms. Most recently he worked for Dan Donahue at the “Farmer Dan” farm stand in Calverton. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with family

Predeceased by his wife, Emma, in 1987, Mr. Brown  is survived by his son, Joseph Jr., of Calverton; his daughters, Constance Hackett of Hartford, Conn. and Gail Brown of Westbury; his brother, Ralph, of Riverhead; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Monday, June 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 t0 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at noon, Tuesday, June 23, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Harriett Gilliam. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.
