Cops: Flanders man arrested on strangulation, assault charges

A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday on strangulation and assault charges after fighting with his friend in Flanders, Southampton Town police said.

Joseph Manglaviti of Flanders got into an altercation at his home at around 2:45 a.m. after he felt his friend disrespected him, according to a police report.

Another person tried to stop the fight after Mr. Manglaviti tossed the male victim, police said.

Mr. Manglaviti then stood in front of the victim’s car as he attempted to drive away, pulled him out of the vehicle, punched him and placed him in a headlock, police said.

After someone attempted to break up the fight, the victim drove to the Big Duck in Flanders and called police, officials said. He was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment.

Mr. Manglaviti was arrested and charged with second-degree strangulation, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, police said.
