Aquebogue News: Annual carnival coming up next week

Happy birthday to my eldest daughter, Anna! Today she is a quarter of a century old! It was wonderful to see you last weekend to celebrate your birthday. Have fun celebrating with your friends in D.C.

This is a great holiday weekend. I love Fourth of July celebrations. On Sunday, July 5, at 3 p.m. Living Water Church in Aquebogue will host “God Bless the USA,” its annual musical tribute celebrating independence and freedom in America. Tickets are $10; free to those who have served or are currently serving in the military. Call 722-4969, ext. 204, or email [email protected]. Tickets can also be purchased directly on the website: lwfgc.org.

If you want to celebrate a little piece of local American history this weekend, head to Hallockville Museum Farm on Friday, July 3. There will be guided tours featuring the interior spaces of the 1765 Homestead — listed on the National Register of Historic Places — as well as the barn. Learn about the history of the Hallock family and the many facets of farming life on Sound Avenue. Each tour takes about 45-50 minutes. Cost: adults, $7; seniors and children, $5. The Homestead tour is offered on Fridays at 1:45 p.m. Guided tours of the farmhouse are also offered on Fridays at 12:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. For both tours, all visitors must check in at Miss Ella’s Gift Shop in the Hudson-Sydlowski House to meet your guide and purchase tickets. Visit hallockville.com/event for more information or call 298-5292.

Don’t forget summer festivities begin this week. Jamesport Fire Department’s annual carnival will be held Tuesday, July 7, from 6 to 11 p.m. On Wednesday, July 8, the grounds open at 6 p.m. for food only; parade begins at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday night are also wristband nights from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 11, the carnival is open from 5 p.m. to midnight; fireworks at 10 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate as a community and support our local fire department.

Old Steeple Community Church will host its annual chicken barbecue Saturday, July 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. Takeout available. Tickets are $15 before July 4; $17 after July 4 through July 11. Call Jean at 722-4171 or email her at [email protected].

Happy birthday to Cindy Slivonik on July 8 from your husband, Wayne. Also, congratulations to Cindy and Wayne on the celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary July 6. That’s quite an accomplishment! Best wishes for many more happy years together.

I hope you have a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends this weekend. Happy Independence Day!
