Two people were rescued from Peconic Bay after their canoe flipped over Wednesday afternoon near East Creek Marina in Jamesport, according to a U.S. Coast Guard official.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Anthony Pagano said a Good Samaritan traveling in a boat found one victim at around 4:40 p.m.

The Good Samaritan later found and rescued the second victim from the water, he said.

The Coast Guard’s Shinnecock Station responded to the scene and transported both victims to shore where rescue workers treated the victims for mild symptoms of hypothermia, he said.

No other details about the incident were immediately available. Emergency personnel at the scene declined comment.
