Police have identified the man who was struck and killed by a car early Saturday morning on Flanders Road, adding that no criminal charges have been filed in the incident.
According to Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa of the Southampton Police Department, Milton Yxpec was in the roadway at the time of the incident, which occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday.
He was walking in the westbound lane of travel near the 7-Eleven when he was struck by the car, which was traveling west, police said.
According to Sister Margaret Smyth, executive director of the North Fork Spanish Apostolate, Mr. Yxpec was an electrician originally from Guatemala. He was in his mid-20s and lived in the Shirley area.
While criminality has been ruled out at this point, the car is under a safety check per procedure in a fatal crash, Ms. Costa said.
He was treated at the scene on Saturday by Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries a short time later.
