Cops: Two men arrested for robbing taxi driver

Riverhead Police arrested two men Friday after they confronted a taxi driver and took his cell phone after an argument at Railroad Avenue in Riverhead, according to a press release.

Nicholas Conforti, 24, of Flanders and John Orlando, 36, of Manorville, fled the scene of the altercation in a vehicle at around 2:10 a.m. Responding officers located the men on Raynor Avenue, police said.

Both men were charged with second-degree robbery, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Mr. Conforti was additionally charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation. Mr. Orlando was charged with DWI, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Both men were transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment.
