Carmen Rose Sweeney

Carmen Rose Sweeney of Mattituck died at her home Oct. 19, 2015. She was 83.

She was born in Manhattan July 31, 1932, to Joseph Peter and Anna (Araujo) Quintana and married Philip Sweeney in Queens on July 26, 1953.

Carmen was an owner of Southampton Auto and Marine Upholstery and a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. She had also been a member of Sacred Heart School Mother’s Club, Cellar Square Dancing Club, North Fork Theatre and Sweet Adelines International and was a Cub Scout den mother.

Being with family, especially her grandchildren, was her greatest love.

Predeceased by her husband Philip; son Kenneth and a great-grandson Ian; Carmen is survived by her sons and their wives: Philip T. Sweeney (Tricia) of Grand Prairie, Texas, Steven R. Sweeney(Kim) of Mattituck, Michael J. Sweeney(Nancy) of Laurel; siblings, Sara Arp and Robert Quintana both of Cooksville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Natalie McTaggert (Johnny) , Michael Sweeney, Jr., Christopher Binnion, Rachael Haase (Robert) and Stephanie Zuhoski (William) and three great-grandchildren, Trey, Devin and Robert.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck; Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt officiating.
