Brenda H. Keyes

Former Riverhead resident Brenda H. Keyes passed away Oct. 24, 2015, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Del. 

Brenda was born in Riverhead. Prior to her illness, she worked as an administrative clerk with Suffolk County Department of Health.

Brenda first came to Dover while attending Wesley College, where she completed her associate degree. She later continued her education and received a bachelor’s degree from Long Island University in Southampton.

Friends described Brenda as a kind lady who loved music. She especially enjoyed singing. Throughout her life she was a member of several choirs. Brenda was also an active member of the Independent Odd Fellows, Golden Rule Lodge Post 17 and Hope Rebekah Lodge Post 24 in Milton, Del. She was also a member of Red Hat Society and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Brenda was predeceased by her parents Orlando “Lannie” Somers Keyes and Teresa Hawkes Keyes. She will be missed by her longtime friends, and caregivers Jonnie and Philip Stubbolo, whom Brenda lived with for the last nine years. She will be remembered by dear friends Kelly Stubbolo and Abbie Walters, Stephen Dunkle, Greg Smith and a special long life friend, Susan McHume whom she met in the first grade at Lady Island, S.C. She will also be remembered by extended family in New York and Massachusetts, especially cousins, Roger Keyes, Hollis Warner and Brice Bucholz and their families.

A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Pippin Funeral Home in Wyoming, Del. Guests may gather 1 hour prior to the service.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Hope Rebekah Lodge Post 24.
