Riverhead News: ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraiser at Suffolk Theater

Congratulations to Matthew and Lindsey Heppner on the birth of their daughter, Stella Michelle, who was born Nov. 16 weighing 8 pounds, 11 ounces and measuring 21 inches.

The proud grandparents are Karen and Mark Heppner and Tim and Candi Piester; her great-grandmother is Joan Heppner. The family is thrilled with their new bundle of joy.

The Suffolk Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently celebrated its 95th anniversary at the Cooperage Inn. The guest speaker was Noel Gish, “Mr. Long Island History.” The society was founded in 1920 and has remained true to its objectives of promoting historic preservation, education and patriotism. The group, which meets at members’ homes, recently attended DAR’s 37th annual Veterans Day luncheon, at which more than 100 members of the Long Island district raised $1,375 for Northport and St. Albans VA hospitals.

A ‘Raise the Roof’ fundraiser will be held Sunday, Nov. 29, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Suffolk Theater to benefit First Congregational Church of Riverhead’s restoration efforts. This “Night of Classic Rock” will feature Blue Ice, Mean Gene and the Flamethrowers and Who Are Those Guys. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 727-4343.

Teens in grades 7-12 can earn community service credits the following ways: 1) By collecting items — clean blankets, sheets and towels, canned cat or dog food, and other supplies — to donate to local animal shelters during Shelter Animal Month. Donations of can be brought to the Teen Loft at Riverhead Free Library through Nov. 30. 2) By collecting mittens, gloves, hats, scarves or socks to be hung on the library’s “Mitten Tree” through Dec. 12. Donations will go to local children in need. 3) By collecting personal care items for locals in need from Dec. 1-23.

A great way to enjoy the holidays is to be a part of a “Wonderful World of Evergreens.” Open to grades 5-12, the program will be held Tuesdays through Dec. 15, from 4 to 5 p.m. Call 727-3228.

Josephine Smith, from the Shinnecock Tribe, will discuss “Native American Stories: Our Past is our Future” at RFL Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. to celebrate Native American Heritage month. All ages are invited. Light refreshments will be served. Call 727-3228 to sign up.

Old Steeple Community Church’s 45th annual Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served.
