William J. Brooks, 87, of Calverton died Dec. 3 at Riverhead Care Center.
He was born March 18, 1928, in Riverhead and was the son of Ella (Cronk) and William Brooks Sr.
Mr. Brooks served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949. He worked as a furniture deliveryman for Hardings and Son Furniture in Riverhead.
A 62-year member of Riverhead Fire Department Eagle Hose Company 4, Mr. Brooks was also a member and past president of the Polish Town Civic Association.
Predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 1992, his daughter, Karen Brooks McBride in 1989, his brother Robert and his sister Patty Averette, Mr. Brooks is survived by his children, William III, of Florida and Kevin, of Riverhead; his sisters Connie Kwasna of Riverhead and Janet Kirklewski of Mastic; his brother Joseph, of Florida; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family received visitors Dec. 6 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service took place Dec. 7 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
