Diane R. (Rolle) Miller of Aquebogue died suddenly Dec. 16 at the age of 62.

She was born Feb. 18, 1953, in Riverhead and attended St. John’s Elementary and Mercy High School in Riverhead. She received an associate degree from Virginia Intermont College in fashion merchandising.

After college she began working for Saks Fifth Avenue in Southampton as a seamstress and worked her way through the ranks to become the operations manager for many different stores throughout the United States including Cleveland, Dallas and Stamford, Conn., to name a few.

She met her husband Kenneth Miller in Dallas in 1986. They met at Addison Airport in Texas while Diane was flying with her brother, Mark Rolle. Diane learned to fly at the age of 17 and received her student pilot license while in high school. Diane and Mark got their love of flying from their father, Walter Rolle. Ken is also a pilot and certified aircraft mechanic. Diane and Ken owned an airplane that they built and flew throughout the United States to visit friends and family as far away as California. So aviation was an important part of her life.

Diane left Saks Fifth Avenue when new ownership took over in 1993 and returned to Riverhead to work in the family business. She kept her father and brother in line until Rolle Brothers closed in 2005. Diane went back into the aviation business and worked at Mattituck Aviation until it closed in 2010. In addition Diane worked part-time at East End Sporting Goods. Diane then went back to work into the retail business and after volunteering for East End Hospice for many years, became manager of the hospice thrift shop, where she worked until her death.

Diane always had a love for cats. From the time she was a child, she was never without one or two cats in her home. Diane also spent many years in the flower gardens around her house.

Predeceased by her mother Jean (Hutchinson) Rolle in 1981 and her father, Walter Rolle in 2009; Diane will be missed by her husband; her brother Mark and his wife, Kay; her nephews, Matthew and Mark Rolle and all her friends.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Dec. 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
