Editor’s picks: My favorite staff photos of 2015

Another great and challenging event we shoot each year is the Riverhead BID’s Cardboard Boat Race. It is essentially sports photography: fast moving and dramatic. It can be so difficult to stay with the winner, because sometimes the boat you may think is going to win suddenly flips over (see the guys in the background). What really stood out to me about this one, taken by northforker editor Vera Chinese, was seeing how determined the woman in front is to reach the finish line. The woman behind her, on the other hand, she’s already there in her mind.
