Police: Flanders man caught after jumping from moving car

A Flanders man was arrested last night after police said he jumped from a moving vehicle, prompting a police search that ultimately led to his capture.

According to Southampton Police, 29-year-old Saul Hernandez was driving on New Year’s Eve night when a police officer attempted to pull him over. While the car was slowing down, Mr. Hernandez allegedly jumped from the driver’s seat and ran from the car.

He was found and arrested several hours later.

Mr. Hernandez was charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and reckless driving — all misdemeanors. He was also cited for traffic violations.

He was held on $4,000 bail.
