The first baby born in 2016 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead is here! And he’s a Porter.

Liam Robert Ramnarine arrived at 10:04 a.m. on Jan. 1, and clocked in at 5-pounds, 14-ounces and 18.5 inches long, the hospital announced Monday.

According to his parents, Greenport residents Maegan and Chris Ramnarine, Liam wasn’t due until Jan. 15. But Ms. Ramnarine started feeling labor pains on Tuesday that continued into New Year’s Eve on Thursday as the couple watched the ball drop.

Unable to sleep from the labor pains, Ms. Ramnarine realized that her son was on the way and ahead of schedule, and the Greenport couple headed to the hospital.

“I am looking forward to seeing his little changes as the days go on,” Mr. Ramnarine said of his newborn son.

The newborn and his family were expected to return home from the hospital soon.
