A Riverhead man who’s already facing a felony burglary charge allegedly stole a .40-caliber handgun from a car parked at Peconic Bay Medical Center early Monday morning, Riverhead Town police said.

Detectives investigating the case arrested Edgar Castillo, 26, who was also connected to a separate investigation by the East End Drug Task Force, police said. Mr. Castillo faces a fourth-degree grand larceny charge, a felony, from the theft Monday and third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, also a felony, related to an ongoing investigation in Riverhead, police said. No further details were immediately released on the East End Drug Task Force case.

Police responded to PBMC at 2:40 a.m. Monday when the owner of a car reported that someone had entered the vehicle and stole a Glock Model 23 handgun. The investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Castillo, police said.

Mr. Castillo is being held on $30,000 bail at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead following his arraignment, police said.

Court records show Mr. Castillo has been arrested several times in the past. He’s currently facing a felony burglary charge stemming from an incident in July where he allegedly stole equipment and money from a Sound Avenue tasting room he used to work for. He pleaded not guilty in that case.

He also pleaded guilty to a criminal possession of a controlled substance charge in June 2015, according to court records.
