Dispatcher who helped girl in murder case honored as Employee of the Year
The Riverhead Town Board is expected to give a proclamation to Tanya Newman as town employee of the year at its meeting on Tuesday.
Ms. Newman helped guide a Wading River girl to safety while the girl’s mother and sister were murdered in their home by a man who later turned the gun on himself.
The board is also expected to declare the Nile Rodgers “Freak Out!” festival to be a “Type One Action” under state environmental law. That means it will take about a month longer before the festival can be voted on, officials said.
The board also is expected to pass a resolution urging LIPA to put a new electrical substation at the Enterprise Park at Calverton.
The meeting starts at 2 p.m. and News-Review reporter Tim Gannon will be live blogging.
