Wrestling: Two SWR wrestlers fall in county finals

Taddeo

The road to Albany for Shoreham-Wading River seniors Jack Taddeo and Kevin Meloni will have to come via a wild card again.

Both wrestlers lost in the finals of Sunday night’s “Doc” Fallot Memorial Suffolk County Wrestling Championships at Hofstra University. They were the only local wrestlers to earn all-county honors with a top-six finish.

Meloni, wrestling at 106 pounds, was pinned in the second period of his match against Adam Busiello, an Eastport-South Manor freshman and defending state champion. Meloni dropped to 34-4 this season while Busiello remains unbeaten at 46-0.

Taddeo, the No. 1 ranked wrestler all year at 145, fell 3-0 to John Busiello, an Eastport-South Manor senior.

Now, both wrestlers will wait for official word on an at-large bid to the state championships that will be held later this month. Taddeo, after losing in last year’s county final as well, earned a wild card and placed fifth in the state.

Meloni, a third-place finisher in the county last year, also earned a wild card and just missed placing as an all-state wrestler.
