Riverhead News: Blood drive at St. Isidore School

The Suffolk Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held their February meeting at the home of member Georgette Case.

Chaplain Caroline Stepnoski led the members in the invocation prayer and the guest speaker was Louise Wilkinson, who presented a program on community service connections and how it impacts the lives of all involved. After lunch was served, grace — with a Valentine’s theme — was said by Chaplain Caroline Stepnoski. It was a very enjoyable time for everyone.

A ‘Sweethearts Tea’ was held Feb. 12 at the Riverhead Care Center. Ten couples attended this special event in celebration of Valentine’s Day. Naturally, my husband, Joe, and I were there, along with Helen and Antone Condzella, who have been married 55 years; John and Dottie Bogdan; and Ellen and Nes Kramer, to name a few. Kristin Abzug always does a great job organizing the functions for the residents. Sharon Blumstein, president of the Riverhead Care Council, helped to serve the refreshments. Joe’s been at the center recovering for 81 days. He is enjoying the recreational activities and visiting all the friends he’s made. He thanks those who have been visiting and for the cards he is continuing to receive.

Cathleen Walter is hosting her sixth annual blood drive on Sunday, Feb. 28, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Isidore School, where she is a teacher. Her goal this year is 50 pints. Remember, the gift of donating blood is the gift of life. It is hoped the Riverhead community will help Cathleen reach her goal while helping out the blood banks.

Riverhead United Methodist Church will show the movie “War Room,” an adult, Christian movie about the power of prayer, on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. A children’s movie will also be shown at that time. The community is invited to attend. The church’s evangelism committee wants to share their love by having families come together. Hope you can join them for a wonderful Sunday afternoon.

It’s that time of year again to hear “peep, peep, peep” at Riverhead Free Library. It just wouldn’t be spring without a visit from the chicks. The eggs will be arriving on Monday, Feb. 29, with the chicks hatching around March 21. You are invited to visit them through the 25th.
