Aquebogue News: East End Emerald Society’s grand marshal parade

It’s that time of year again — no, not Christmas but spring! Can you feel it in the air? And St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner.

I know it’s not a national holiday, but I’m second-generation Irish. My grandparents were right off the boat from Ireland, so in our family St. Patrick’s Day was always a big deal.

East End Emerald Society will also host its grand marshal parade fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jason’s Vineyard in Jamesport. Introduced at the event will be grand marshal Sean McCabe, former chief of Jamesport Fire Department. The fundraiser will also feature refreshments, a 50/50 raffle and a chinese auction. Entertainment will be provided by local Irish step-dancers and a piper/drummer, a DJ, the Long Ireland Pipers and more. It will be a great celebration for all. So, come out and have some fun while helping to defray the cost of the third annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which will be held Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. on Main Street in Jamesport. The cost for the fundraiser is $25 at the door, cash or check only. For more information, call 631-484-3303.

The Riverhead Lions Club, along with the Riverhead Rotary and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Riverhead, would like to invite you to the annual Tri-Club State of the Town dinner on Wednesday, March 2, at The Birchwood of Polish Town. Networking begins at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is at 6 p.m. The evening’s speaker will be Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter. Dinner tickets are $30 and can be purchased by contacting Bob (631-335-9680; [email protected]) or Melissa (631-727-7850, ext. 341; [email protected]).

The Lions Club is also pleased to announce that tickets are now available for the annual St. Patrick’s Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner, to be held Saturday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at Riverhead Polish Hall, 214 Marcy Ave. Tickets include dinner and soft drinks. Featured will be entertainment by award-winning Irish step-dancers and bagpipers, with traditional Irish music, a 50/50 raffle and more. Tickets — $22 for adults, $18 for seniors and $14 for children under 10 — can be purchased at Barth’s Drug Store (631-727-2125) or at the Law Office of Peter Danowski (631-727-4900).

See what I mean? Everybody’s getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day and the warmer weather is just around the corner. Think spring and have a great week!
