Robert L. Tormey of Riverhead died March 14 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 93.
The son of Marie (Krall) and Leigh Tormey, he was born March 24, 1922, in Wharton, N.J.
Mr. Tormey obtained a master’s degree and was a U.S. Air Force pilot. He received an American Campaign Medal, a World War II Victory Medal, an Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, a Distinguished Unit Badge and retired as a lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Tormey was also a teacher with the Riverhead Central School District.
Predeceased by his wife, Patricia, in 2015, Mr. Tormey is survived by his daughter, Janis Meyer of Ridge; one grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial visitation will take place Sunday, March 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, at First Congregational Church of Riverhead, the Rev. Dr . Sean Murray officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery.
