Featured Letter: These agencies and employees deserve support

Albany

I applaud your recent editorial support for those agencies and their employees that provide services for the intellectually and developmentally disabled. To require these nonprofit agencies to increase wages without raising their state funding accordingly will only reduce and detract from the essential services received by those community members they service.

As a parent of an adult son who lives in a group home here in Riverhead, I appreciate and understand the daily challenges and responsibilities that staff employees face everyday at work. They deserve, at the very least, a minimum wage of $15 per hour.

Contrary to what Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo believes, every person who lives and works on Long Island deserves to be paid a living wage!
