Authorities are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a fire that took place at the Baiting Hollow Golf Club last Monday, which destroyed a trailer and damaged two other vehicles.

Riverhead police and firefighters were called to an area behind the club at around 6 p.m. and found a 2003 Timberland Travel Trailer “fully engulfed in flames,” according to a police press release. The fire spread and damaged two nearby vehicles, police said.

Riverhead and Wading River firefighters quickly doused the fire, which Riverhead assistant fire chief Kevin Brooks said could have spread across the course due to high winds if firefighters hadn’t contained it quickly.

Both the Riverhead Fire Marshal and the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad were notified and began investigating the fire. Detectives have asked anyone with information about the fire to contact the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.

All calls will remain confidential, police said.
