Cops: Flanders woman arrested under Leandra’s Law

Southampton Town police arrested a Flanders woman for a felony DWI charge early Friday morning after allegedly driving drunk with a juvenile in the car, according to a press release.

Flora A. Suruy, 26, was charged with Leandra’s Law, which makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a child under the age of 16, police said.

Ms. Suruy was driving a 2008 Mazda SUV north on Flanders Road toward County Road 94 in Riverside when police observed her failing to maintain her lane at about 1:52 a.m., police said. Police determined she was intoxicated and also had a juvenile in the car. The juvenile, whose age police did not disclose, was released to the custody of a family member, police said.

In addition to the DWI charge, Ms. Suruy was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, failing to maintain lane and operation of a motor vehicle without a license, both violations, police said.
