Play ball! Riverhead Little League kicks off 2016 season
Play ball!
Riverhead Little League kicked off its season this morning on a bright and sunny morning at Stotzky Park.
In his first year as league president, Scott Wicklund welcomed the crowd of a few hundred people, as did Supervisor Sean Walter, before Kiera Mackey, 6, Tye Marelli, 4, and Kaysee Mojo, 10, threw out the ceremonial first pitches of the 2016 season.
For the first time in years, teams will be wearing their sponsors’ names on their jerseys instead of MLB team names — a move, Mr. Wicklund said after he took over, intended to help boost sponsorship.
Cub Scout pack 242 presented the colors as the Star Spangled Banner played, after which all of the players ran onto the field.
