Sophie M. Niewadomski
Longtime Riverhead resident Sophie M. Niewadomski died May 14 at Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson. She was 88.
The daughter of Peter and Martha Kruk, she was born May 5, 1928, in Riverhead.
Ms. Niewadomski worked in the dairy department at Bohack and then at King Kullen in Riverhead until her retirement.
Family members said she loved crossword puzzles, reading and spending time in her yard enjoying flowers and birds.
Predeceased by her husband Walter in 2002, Ms. Niewadomski is survived by her sisters Frances Allen of Riverhead, Cecelia McMullen of Bartlett, Ill. and Barbara Neighbor of Shirley. She was also predeceased by her sister Virginia Lebrun and her brothers, Chester, Antone and Edward Kruk and Peter Kruk Jr.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church Cemetery in Riverhead.
