Cops: Sports Authority employees caught stealing merchandise

Two Sports Authority employees were arrested Wednesday on felony charges after they were caught stealing merchandise at the Riverhead store on Route 58, Riverhead Town police said.

Police responded to the store shortly before 5:15 p.m. to investigate a reported a theft and found Kerry Nash, 19, and Matthew Fineron, 20, had been stealing from the store from April 28 to May 8, officials said.

They were charged with third-degree grand larceny and held for a morning arraignment, police said.

The national sports retail chain declared bankruptcy in March and announced its Riverhead location would be closing.
