Richard X. Park

Richard X. Park, 80, formerly of Aquebogue, passed April 7, 2016, at his home in Fair Play, S.C. after his battle with cancer. 

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Rolle) Park; his daughters, Mary Clare Park, Ann M. Park and Patricia E. Wagner; his son, Richard A. Park; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews; many close friends and his beloved dog, Turk.

He was born in 1935 to Robert and Claire Park of Philadelphia. Richard completed West Catholic Boy High School in 1952 and then honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then later in the Air Force Reserves.

Richard met the love of his life, Mary Rolle while on military leave on the east end of Long Island. The two married on April 12, 1958, and later settled in Mary’s home town of Riverhead to raise their children in the home he built with his own two hands. He retired from LILCO, after over 30 years as a line supervisor. He was a CPR instructor and a former local volunteer fireman. He also served on the Riverhead Town Assessors board for several years.

Richard had a passion for sports, photography and cooking. He was a basketball referee and the secretary-treasure for and life member of IABBO board 40 and was one of the founding members of the annual IABBO Holiday Classic basketball tournament in Southampton. He dabbled in golf; was a BBQ chef for St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead; a Riverhead Little League baseball coach for the Rotary and an honorary Riverhead varsity football coach/photographer/pre-game spaghetti dinner chef.

A funeral Mass was conducted in South Carolina April 18. A local memorial Mass will be held for him June 11, 2016 at 9:30am, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead for his northern friends and family pay their respects.
