The Riverhead School District is searching for a new assistant superintendent with current administrator David Wicks expected to step down in June.

Mr. Wicks’ planned departure, which was first reported by Riverheadlocal Wednesday, comes three years after he replaced Lois Etzel as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Wicks had served as the district’s high school principal since 2011.

Riverhead Superintendent Nancy Carney said the Eastern Suffolk BOCES board is scheduled to appoint Mr. Wicks as its new superintendent Wednesday.

“I appreciate all that Mr. Wicks has contributed to the district and our students over the last nine years,” Ms. Carney said. “He will be missed by all. I wish him well in his new position.”

Ms. Carney added the district “posted for the anticipated opening a couple of weeks ago and we will begin interviewing soon.”

His last day in Riverhead will be June 30, she said.

Mr. Wicks didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
