Cops: Bronx man arrested under Leandra’s Law

A traffic stop in Riverhead led to the arrest of a Bronx man for felony driving while intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, Riverhead Town police said.

Joseph Butler, 37, was stopped at 6:25 a.m. on Osprey Avenue and Route 58 in Riverhead and found to be driving while intoxicated with a 2-year-old in the car, police said. Mr. Butler was arrested under Leandra’s Law, which makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a child under age 16, police said.

He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child and was arraigned at Riverhead Town Justice Court.
