SWR News: Wading River Historical Society annual craft fair

Laura LaSita of Wading River attended the ladies LIFT ice cream social/lecture recently at St. John the Baptist Church in Wading River and was quite taken with the guest speaker, Nancy Jantzen. Laura said, “She is an amazing woman, so inspirational, speaking of what God does in her life as she travels abroad.” Nancy shared stories of her trips to Africa, Medjugorje, Yugoslavia and Lourdes, where apparitions of the Blessed Mother have been appearing.

Outside Shoreham Fire Co. 3 of the Rocky Point Fire Department is a bunting that reads, “In Memory of 43-Year Member and Ex-Captain Frank Stringer,” who recently passed away. May you rest in peace, Frank. God bless his family and friends.

Kevin Mann, former Global Awareness Club adviser at Shoreham-Wading River High School and longtime supporter of Hope Children’s Fund, tells us that all the local students who traveled to Kenya knew Jane Makandi, a founding social worker of the Jerusha Mwiraria HCF Home in Meru, Kenya, who died in 2014. They danced with her, laughed with her and shared many memories. Jane left a huge void in the lives of the children and in the daily operations of the home. Now, there exists a Jane Makandi Scholarship Fund that provides tuitions for deserving children attending secondary and postsecondary schools.

Wading River Historical Society will hold its annual craft fair on Sunday, June 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The society is located at 300 North Country Road in downtown Wading River. Call 631-929-4082 for information.

C.K. Auto in Wading River wishes a happy 21st birthday to Peter, aka Skeeter, who celebrated May 18. Cheers, Peter!

Shoreham-Wading River High School varsity baseball pitcher and co-captain Zack White (No. 25) is feeling very optimistic about the season. I met him recently and he said, “The team is doing good. We won League VII this year, went 15-3 during the season and are now in the playoffs (2-1), going up against the cross-town rival, Rocky Point. We’re having a great season and have lots of good guys on the team and our team chemistry is great. Everyone is supportive of one another.” Good luck to the Wildcats baseball team. It was really nice meeting you, Zack.

I hope your Memorial Day weekend was memorable. Be well, be grateful and be appreciative. We’ll meet back here in two weeks.
