Alma Rose Setek

Alma Rose Setek, formerly of Riverhead, passed away peacefully June 4, 2016, at her home in Indialantic, Fla., with her daughters at her bedside. 

Alma was born Nov. 12, 1929, to George and Mildred (Reeves) Lucas. She graduated from Westhampton Beach High School and worked at the U. S. Post Office before getting married to William R. Brown and raising her three daughters.

In 1962 Alma married Louis Setek of Riverhead where together they ran their business, Riverhead Lanes. They enjoyed boating and fishing on their boat the “Alma Lou.” Alma loved traveling and cruising and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and many friends.

In 1987 Alma and Louis retired to Florida where she was active in her church, Calvery Chapel, in Melbourne, Fla. She volunteered her time both at her church and the American Cancer Society. Her hobbies were crocheting, knitting, gardening and cooking.

Predeceased by her husband, Louis Setek, and her daughter, Marilyn G. McBurnie, she is survived by her daughters, Barbara Brown of Indialantic and Wendy Kukla of Jamesport, and her son-in-law, James McBurnie of Riverhead. Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Matthew W. (Jackie) Kukla, Alicia (John) Lynch, Justin and Victoria San Andres, James McBurnie, Michelle Vail and Shana (Bruce) Rumph; and her five great grandchildren Shawn McBurnie, Amanda and Adam Vail, and Christopher and Madison Rumph.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 10, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
