Shoreham-Wading River News: Thank you to school staff members
We’ve officially come to the end of the school year. First Student in Shoreham sent out more than 200 thank-you postcards to its drivers and monitors for another “season of safety for all.” Congratulations to the entire staff on an outstanding job. Diane Zack, a First Student driver, is retiring and moving to Port Saint Lucie, Fla. It was a pleasure working with you, Diane. We know with your happy demeanor and friendly personality you’ll be a big hit.
The Miller Avenue and Wading River elementary school teachers are always concerned about students’ reading skills diminishing over the summer. That said, students are urged to get involved in the Summer Reading Club at North Shore Public Library, which will kick off today, Thursday, June 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with award-winning author Todd Strasser. Young adults can also take advantage of a “Summer Volunteer Opportunity: Battle of the Books” program Wednesdays, July 6-Aug. 10, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. For other volunteer opportunities for teens, visit northshorepubliclibrary.org or call 631-929-4488, ext. 247.
It was fun to meet the young ladies having pizza in the dining room at La Bistro in Wading River recently. It brought me right back to birthdays when my daughters were young. A mother gathers a group of girls to celebrate and either takes them out or serves them goodies at home. Every child knows that “things go better with pizza.” Belated happy birthday to Ava, who turned 9 June 13, and a big shout-out to the friends who gathered around her: Alexa, Fiona, Emma, Emily, Haylie, Reese and Grayce.
Belated birthday wishes also go out to Cecilia Himberger, who celebrated June 18; Michelle Viggiano, June 20; Camille Sabatella, June 28; and Anne Langella, June 29.
Happy birthday to Ruth Woessner, who will celebrate July 7, and Helen Leonhardt, who celebrates July 12.
Wading River’s population just increased by one! Congratulations to Rebecca and Chris Herrschaft on the birth of their baby girl, Lara James, who was born June 24 weighing 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measuring 20 inches. Congrats to the entire Herrschaft family, especially big sister, Ella! Welcome to Wading River and the world, Lara.
I am married to the most wonderful man and we just celebrated 32 years together on June 24. Vinnie, you are an absolute gift to me. I am so blessed. I saw a sign on the wall at the home of someone we know that says, “And it all started with love.” Happy anniversary, dear.
