Local students graduate from NJROTC Leadership Academy

A group of Riverhead High School students recently graduated from the NJROTC Leadership Academy in Newport, R.I.

Jacob Nitti, Robert Johnson, and Michael Daniel graduated and Cadet Lt. Commander Julia Pizzuto, who graduated from the academy last year, served as a cadet aide at the school.

Cadets earned the Silver Cord after completing an intensive two-week training program earlier this month. The program includes physical fitness training, orienteering and academics, as well team-building exercises and sail training in Newport Harbor.

About 140 cadets from more than 50 NJROTC schools were selected to attend the academy this year.
