A Riverhead man was rescued from a fire Sunday by two Riverhead Town police officers, according to a press release.

Officers Anthony Montalbano and James Lydon responded to a structure fire at Oakland Ridge Mobile Home Park on Osborne Avenue around 4:10 p.m. where Marek Staszek, 30, was found sleeping in a smoked filled room, officials said.

Mr. Montalbano pushed the air conditioning unit through the bedroom window and grabbed the resident, police said.

Mr. Montalbano and Mr. Lydon then got Mr. Staszek out of the mobile home through the window, officials said.

Riverhead Fire Department firefighters were successful in locating and rescuing Mr. Staszek’s dog. No one else was inside the mobile home, police said.

Mr. Staszek was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center as a precaution, police said.

No other information about the incident was immediately available.
