Cops: Second armed robbery this week reported in Riverhead

Riverhead Town police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery Thursday night at Walgreens on Route 58, according to a press release.

The suspect entered the store, approached the register area and demanded money from an employee while displaying a handgun, police said. The man then fled on foot with an undetermined amount of money, police said.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 40-45, about 5-foot-8 with an average build. Multiple agencies conducted a search after responding just after 7 p.m., including a Suffolk County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. The suspect could be not be located.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed anything around that time is asked to call police at 631-727-4500, ext. 332.

The robbery is the second reported incident on Route 58 in the past week. An attempted armed robbery was reported at the Mobil gas station Tuesday night.
