Elsie R. Buckhannon

Elsie R. Buckhannon of Riverhead died Dec. 14 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 78.

The daughter of George and Elsie (Hatchet) Johnson, she was born June, 6, 1938, in Riverhead and was a homemaker.

Predeceased by her first husband, Lindy Jackson Sr. and her children, Lonnie Jackson, Lindy Jackson Jr., Wayne Jackson and Linda Jackson Harris, she is survived by her husband, Joseph Buckingham; her children, Yvonne Jackson Scott, Carol Jackson Clinton, Paul Jackson and Curtis Jackson; her stepson, Eric Buckhannon; her sisters, Katherine Miller and Shirley Womack Benton; her brother, Frederick Johnson and many relatives and friends. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Julia Lockhart, Mary Ford, Frances Nash and Sally Johnson and her brothers, Earl Johnson and Hollis Johnson.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, where are service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
