Randy Hintze wins Wading River fire commissioner seat by two votes

Wading River Fire Department

The one affidavit ballot that could have potentially required a new election for a commissioner seat in the Wading River Fire District has now been counted.

Officials announced this week that Randy Hintze has been elected to a one-year term by two votes. The vote results show Mr. Hintze, a former commissioner and fire chief, had 283 votes to Mike Harrigan’s 281 vote.

The position fills the remainder of Tom Lateulere’s term, who died earlier this year.

Incumbent John McManus defeated challenger Tim Deveny by a vote of 330 to 256.

The $6.8 million capital improvement project in Wading River called for making repairs to both the North Country Road fire headquarters and to Station 2 on Hulse Landing Road, and also called for the construction of a new building adjacent to Station 2.

It was rejected by a vote of 405 against to 203 in favor.
