Cops: Pedestrian airlifted following crash on Main Street

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on West Main Street in Riverhead Thursday night and sustained a serious head injury, according to New York State police.

The crash occurred on eastbound West Main Street at about 10:40 p.m. and a preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was standing in the road when the crash happened, police said. The driver remained at the scene and rendered first aid, police said. No criminality is suspected.

The pedestrian was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.
