Federal officials confirmed Friday that two people were arrested in Riverhead as part of targeted operations by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials across the country last week.

ICE officials had announced earlier this week that 41 arrests were made in New York City and the surrounding area during operations that led to about 680 arrests in five locations across the country.

“This operation targeted public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, and individuals who have violated our nation’s immigration laws, including those who re-entered the country after being deported and immigration fugitives ordered deported by federal immigration judges,” ICE officials said in a statement issued earlier this week.

On Friday, citing information provided by federal officials, ABC News first reported additional details about the 41 arrests made in the metro area, including two arrests in Riverhead. On Friday night, a federal official shared the same list with the News-Review.
