Featured Letter: Anderson family sends thanks to community

To the editor:

It is with a broken heart filled with sorrow that we write this letter of thanks and sympathy. We thank the entire Riverhead community: Alexander-Tuthill Funeral home; police and fire departments; schools and teachers; coaches and teammates; classmates, friends and neighbors and those outside of our community. You have shown immense amounts of support, sympathy and have shared our grief alongside us. We never imagined how many lives our son, John, had touched. We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from the Riverhead community. It is this that makes us family. And we all grieve together.

John was happiest when he was with his friends. He is our guardian angel and always will be. John will be remembered for the way he carried himself and for his kindness to others. He loved you all very much and we will continue to love him as he is forever with us. Because of your generosity, we have established the John D. Anderson Memorial Scholarship to benefit the future graduates of Riverhead High School. Thank you for the generous donations that have been made in his honor.

We also thank the News-Review for all of its past articles and kind words of John and for this opportunity to thank you all. We ask for your continued prayers. God bless.

Dennis, Carmel and Maria Anderson
