George Nicholas Triandiflou

George Nicholas Triandiflou, 88, of Wellington, Fla., passed away Aug. 12.

George was born and raised in Framingham, Mass. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, he went on to earn a degree from Wheaton College. Eventually he settled on the East End of Long Island, spending 36 years teaching fifth and sixth grade in Riverhead at Pulaski Street School. He coached countless athletes in men’s and women’s basketball, softball and football. During the summers, he taught tennis for over 20 years in East Hampton and managed the Green Hollow Tennis Club for nine years. He retired to Florida.

George was a sports enthusiast, either participating in or watching tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, football, bowling and horse racing. He loved the Red Sox and never turned down games of Farkle or backgammon or an apple turnover.

George is survived by his wife, Lavinia Gilbert, and his son James Triandiflou; daughter Lynn (Bart) Franey; daughter Jody (Jim) Foster; daughter Amy (Jesse) Triandiflou; son Daniel Triandiflou; and 13 grandchildren.
