Sophie R. Brown

Sophie R. Brown of Riverhead died at her home Sept. 10. She was 82. 

The daughter of Emmitt and Elsie Love, she was born June 21, 1935, in Speonk.

Ms. Brown was a laundry worker at Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue. For over 30 years, she was a member of the Maranatha Choir.

Predeceased by her husband, John, Ms. Brown is survived by her children, Lane Simmons of Riverhead, Michael Simmons of Queens and Christopher Simmons of Riverhead; her sisters, Kathleen Evans of Riverhead and Elsie White of Maryland; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Sept. 18, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Flanders, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Cremation will be private.

Arrangements were in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
