Amanda Jane Brown

Lifelong Riverhead resident Amanda Jane Brown died March 11 at The Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. She was 75.

The daughter of Lucy Bartlett, she was born July 20, 1942, in Aquebogue and attended Riverhead High School.

She worked for New York Telephone Company.

Ms. Brown was involved with many local organizations including, Project Head Start, the Women’s Club of Riverhead, Senior Helpers of Cutchogue, and the Fresh Pond Manufactured Homeowners Association, which she served as secretary. She also volunteered as an inspector/chairwoman and coordinator for the Board of Elections, co-founded the Millbrook Gables Civic Association, served as president and trustee for FBC Progressive Women and was a member of its floral club, and was a member of the Get-A-Way Travel Club. Ms. Brown also served as president for the Section 8 Board of Directors and TOPS, was a Worthy Matron of Tyre Chapter 62 and served as its secretary, was a Most Ancient Matron of Esther Court 12 and served as its secretary and treasurer, was a recordress for Abu Bekr Court 74 and served on several of its committees, and was a charter member of Al Maseer 226. She also volunteered at Peconic Bay Medical Center, visited the sick and helped others register to vote.

Family members said she enjoyed church, volunteering, event planning and traveling.

Predeceased by her husband, Charles Brown, Ms. Brown is survived by her daughters, Pamela Langhorne, Frederica Rollins and Barbara Langhorne; her son, Charles Brown Jr.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family received visitors March 15 at Friendship Baptist Church in Riverhead, where a funeral service took place March 16.

Arrangements were in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
