Cops: Truck pulls down power lines on Main Road, backing up traffic in Jamesport

A tree-trimming truck that swerved into the shoulder on Main Road to avoid an oncoming car struck a utility pole, pulling down power lines along with it and backing up traffic Friday in Jamesport, according to Riverhead Town police.

Crews from PSEG-Long Island were en route to the scene and Verizon was on scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. to begin fixing the broken utility poles and downed wires.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The truck was headed eastbound on Main Road when the driver saw an eastbound car begin to drift into the lane, police said. The vehicles did not collide.

The road remained open as crews began to assess the scene, but traffic was backed up particularly bad in the eastbound direction. Jamesport Fire Department members were directing traffic.
