Frank W. McKay

Frank W. McKay, age 78, passed on at Peconic Bay Medical Center May 8, 2018.

A lifelong resident of Riverhead and a graduate of Riverhead High School, he was born Jan. 9, 1940, in Greenport, N.Y.

Frank was married to his loving wife, Carol, for 56 years, and they were blessed having four children: Jeffrey McKay (Chrissy), Doreen Clark (Jamie), JoAnn (Christopher) and Steven (Maureen); and eight grandchildren: Melanie, Yvonne, David, Jason, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Brooke and Brianne.

Frank was a self-employed farmer, owner of Sunburst Acres Farms of Riverhead and Sunburst Landscape, and was famous for “Billy’s Wood Roasted Corn” on Sound Avenue in Riverhead.

He was a parishioner of St. Isidore R.C. Church, where he served as an usher for many years; a member of the Holy Name Society; past president and director of the Polish Town Civic Association; and past president and director of Riverhead Polish Independent Club.

Frank enjoyed Polish music and was the band leader of the Polka Chips of Riverhead for 15 years, playing his trumpet. He was affectionately known to his grandchildren as their “Dziadzi.” He enjoyed barbecuing, partying and conversing with all friends and family and enjoyed making his famous “RECIPE” beverage.

Frank lived from year to year, waiting to attend several polka weekends, polka dances near and far and the Polish Town Festival, where he was especially proud of his children and grandchildren following in his footsteps, carrying on his Polish heritage. His smile and his good heart will be missed by all.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
