Spicy’s in Riverhead announces ‘grand re-opening’ for Thursday

The wait is over.

Spicy’s BBQ in Riverhead announced on Facebook Wednesday night it will hold a “grand re-opening” at 11 a.m. Thursday. The popular West Main Street take-out spot, which for four decades served up fried chicken out of a vintage dining car, was shut down April 24 and has been closed since.

Bright orange “seized” signs were hanging in the window of both the restaurant’s Riverhead and Bellport locations for the past two weeks.

Dee Muma, who owns the property where Spicy’s is located, told the News-Review in April that she spoke with business co-owner Rick Stoner, who said he’s working out a repayment plan with the state for three outstanding warrants for non-payment of taxes that would allow him to continue to operate both businesses.

In a message posted on Facebook April 25, Spicy’s wrote: “We will be back bigger and better.”

The Bellport location will remain closed for now, Spicy’s announced.
