Video: Playoffs becoming familiar territory for Riverhead lacrosse

Last year, the Riverhead girls lacrosse team reached the playoffs for the first time in program history. It didn’t take long for the Blue Waves to record their first win once they were in.

This season, the Blue Waves returned with the expectations of making the playoffs again and advancing even further in playoffs. Heading into the regular season finale Friday at Commack, the Blue Waves had a 9-4 Division I record and were positioned fifth in power rankings out of 22 teams.

On Wednesday, the Blue Waves lost a close 10-8 game to undefeated Northport, the top-ranked Class A team in the state. If the Blue Waves maintain a top-five position, they would earn a bye into the quarterfinals May 19. If not, the will play Wednesday, most likely at home.
